Seven major shale oil producing areas in the United States are expected to produce more than 8 million barrels a day by the end of the year, according to a monthly report released Monday by the Energy Information Association of the United States.
The United States has surpassed Saudi Arabia and Russia to become the world's largest producer of crude oil, producing a record 11.7 million barrels a day.
By the end of December, shale oil production is expected to reach 8.03 million barrels per day for the first time, and to increase by 134,000 barrels per day to 8.17 million barrels per day by January.
U.S. gas production is expected to rise to a record high of 76.9 billion cubic feet a day in January. This will be more than 1.1 billion cubic feet per day higher than the December forecast, and output will continue to grow for 12 consecutive months.
