Two sources familiar with the situation said Thursday that some advisers advised President Trump to consider making his senior adviser and son-in-law Kushner the White House chief of staff.
A source said Kushner had no intention of seeking the position. The source asked for anonymity.
Trump said Thursday that he was considering five chief of staff candidates. John Kelly, the current chief of staff, will leave early next year.
Sources said that in the past few days, "many people advised the president" to choose Kushner because of his close relationship with the president and many successful cases, including helping the United States reach new trade agreements with Mexico and Canada, and pushing forward the prison reform bill.
The White House has not commented for the time being.
But Kushner is satisfied with his current job. "He is not currently inclined to pursue the position," the source said.
