Thailand's Electoral Commission said Tuesday it would hold a long-delayed general election on February 24, on the assumption that the military government lifted the ban on political activities by January.
After the Thai military government came into power in 2014, it issued a strict ban on political activities, which means maintaining order on demand.
"The election date is set for February 24, 2019," Nat Laosisawakul, vice chairman of the Election Commission, told reporters. "The lifting of the ban on political activity will depend on the government," Nat said.
By the time of publication, the Thai military government had lifted the ban on political activities.
