Australia's conservative government is accepting a major defeat in the upcoming elections because Prime Minister Scott Morrison has failed to attract voters through active national security campaigns.
The Australian newspaper reported that the opposition Labour Party maintained a 53-47% lead in the LDP government, unchanged from the polls earlier this month.
Although Morrison tried to hold general elections in May as a referendum on border security and asylum seekers - a hot topic in previous elections.
In February, Labour and independent parties jointly amended the country's tough border security law against the government's wishes.
Based on these changes, doctors are now able to evacuate asylum-seekers in need of treatment from remote Pacific detention centres in Papua New Guinea or Nauru, Australia.
Morrison rejected the poll and said his government was ready for inevitable failure.
"Our views on the economy and national security resonate," Morrison told Sky News. "The election was in May, and we were only half-time behind."
A poll of 1,582 people was conducted from February 21 to 24, with a margin of error of 3 percentage points.
