Britain said Tuesday it was disappointed by Honda's decision to close its only British car factory. "Britain is one of the leaders in these technological developments, so it's disappointing that this decision has been taken now," said Greg Clark, the commerce secretary.
"It was a devastating decision for Swinton and Britain," Clark said. "This is a business decision based on unprecedented changes in global markets."
Honda said it had informed employees of its "proposal" to close the Swenton plant.
"Honda UK Manufacturing Company today informed its employees of its proposal to close its Swindon Automotive Manufacturing Plant at the end of the current model production cycle in 2021," Honda said in a statement.
