The Macao Special Administrative Region Bulletin, published on June 4, published an administrative order issued by Cui Shi'an, Chief Executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region, setting June 16, 2019 as the election day for members of the Election Committee of the Chief Executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region. This means that the relevant procedures for the election of the fifth Chief Executive of the Macao SAR have started.
According to the Basic Law of Macao, the Chief Executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region is elected by a broadly representative Chief Executive Election Committee (CEC) composed of 400 members from four sectors and appointed by the Central People's Government.
The first group of members of the Election Committee is the business and financial sector; the second group is the cultural, educational, professional and sports sectors; the third group is the labor, social services and religious sectors; the fourth group is the representatives of members of the Legislative Council, the National People's Congress of Australia, the CPPCC members of Australia and members of municipal organs.
